Kyle Edmund beats Ricardas Berankis in Paris Masters opening round in France
Kyle Edmund ended his 8 match losing streak as Kyle beat Lithuania Ricardas Berank in round one of the Paris Masters. Kyle, twenty four, had been fourteenthin the world, the British number one in January but a poor season has drop him to seventy fifth, the third highest ranked Briton.
He hadn't won since the start round win against Nick Kyrgios of Australia in the Rogers Cup in August in Canada. Kyle will now play Fourteenth seed Diego Schwartzman of Argentina in round 2. The Briton edged the 1st set, but instantly broke 29 years old qualifier Berankis in the Lithuanian first service game of the 2nd set on his way to holding a lld of 5-0.
Berankis, 70th in the world has gained one break back but Kyle got the game he needed to advance in to the next phase. If Edmund beats Schwartzman, then he could meet world number 1 Novak Djokovic in the last sixteen. In the 1st of the round 2 matches, eighth seed Karen Khachanov of Russia suffered a surprise loss to Jan Lennard Struff of Germany.
The tournament in France features eight of the top ten players in the rankings, while world number 3 Roger Federer withdrew from the event on Sunday.
